Wood White Butterfly (Delias Aganippe) also called the Red-Spotted Jezebel Butterfly in late larval form feeding on a young Quandong tree, Northern Flinders Ranges. Chrysalises were observed 5 weeks later and butterflies emerged in early August.
Dainty Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio anactus), sometimes known as the Small Citrus Butterfly in caterpillar form seen feeding on cumquat in April, soon to be transferred to the butterfly house at the Leigh Creek Library for observation.
About 10cm long, this moth caterpillar is yet to be identified. It is feeding on a Broughton Willow in early March and seems to be carrying parasites or eggs. Send us an email if you can tell us about more!
Various Hawk-moths are proliferating in the Flinders Ranges after heavy rains, including the Vine Leaf Hawk-moth and this Convolvulus Hawk-moth caterpillar caught in the rather surprising act of swimming.
Australian Lesser Wanderer Butterfly (Danaus petilia) and caterpillar feeding on cultivated Milkweed in the Copley, Northern Flinders Ranges in January.
